19 नवम्बर 1917 को कमला को इन्दिरा नेहरू के रूप में पुत्री की प्राप्ति हुई, जो आगे चलकर अपने पिता की तरह देश की प्रधानमंत्री और काँग्रेस पार्टी की अध्यक्षा बनी। नवम्बर १९२४ में कमला ने एक पुत्र को भी जन्म दिया, किन्तु जन्म के दो दिन पश्चात् ही उसकी मृत्यु हो गयी।

अस्पताल की शुरुआत 1931 में अपने पैतृक घर स्वराज भवन में श्रीमती कमला नेहरू द्वारा कि गई थी। इसकी स्थापना एक औषधालय के रूप में हुई थी। सन 1939 में गांधीजी ने कमला नेहरू मेमोरियल अस्पताल की आधारशिला रखी।

KNMH देश का एकमात्र अस्पताल है जिसके लिए उन्होंने चंदा इकट्ठा किया था। महात्मा गांधी ने 28 फरवरी 1941 को स्वर्गीय श्रीमती कमला नेहरू की याद में इस अस्पताल का उद्घाटन किया था। उनकी मृत्यु 28 फरवरी 1936 में हुई थी। 1994 से अस्पताल का ऑन्कोलॉजी विभाग एक क्षेत्रीय कैंसर केंद्र है जिसे भारत सरकार द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त है।

अपर नगर आयुक्त ने बताया कि डीएम के निर्देश पर कमला नेहरू नगर मैदान से ही मतदान केंद्र के लिए पोलिंग पार्टियां रवाना होंगी। यहां करीब 50 एकड़ जमीन में मैदान है। इस मैदान में अभी घास आदि कूड़ा जमा हुआ है। नगर निगम को कहा गया है कि 26 मार्च से ही इस मैदान की साफ सफाई का कार्य शुरू हो जाएगा। इसके लिए नगर निगम के करीब 100 सफाई कर्मचारियों की ड्यूटी लगाई जाएगी।

लोगों का कहना है कि कई सालों से पार्क में बने सिटिंग स्टैंड की हालत काफी खराब है। यह स्टैंड पत्थर के बने हैं। लोगों के मुताबिक स्टैंड कभी भी ढह सकते हैं। इलाके में रह रहे लोगों की शिकायत है कि इसकी व्यवस्था की ओर ध्यान नहीं दिया जा रहा है। मल्कागंज, आर्यपुरा, बेरीवाला बाग, आजाद मार्केट, मोरी गेट इलाके से लोग इसमें सैर करने के लिए आते हैं। लोगों ने बताया कि पार्क में लाइटें भी नहीं लगी हुई हैं। इसकी मरम्मत के लिए डीडीए प्रशासन को आरडब्ल्यूए ने शिकायत कर दी है। लेकिन आरडब्ल्यूए के मुताबिक अभी तक इसकी ओर ध्यान नहीं दिया जा रहा है।
